FUNERAL

 Guidelines to Establish Islamic Burial
To establish an Islamic Burial there are two issues to deal with
(1) Mortuary service includes
  • Transportation of the body from the place of death to the mortuary facility where the preparation of the body for burial (washing & Kafan) is done.
  • Getting the burial permit from the county of SD.
  • Transporting the body to the cemetery for burial & providing the family with the death certificate later.

ICSD has experience with these mortuaries:

Muslim Death – In House Death Protocol:
If the death happens at home, i.e., hospice the following steps should be taken by the family:
  1. Call the nurse from the hospice agency so they can pronounce time of death.
  2. Let the nurse know if you have a preferred mortuary. The nurse will initiate contact with the mortuary to pick up the deceased after they pronounce time of death.

Muslim Death – Hospital or Nursing Home Death Protocol:
  1. Upon declaration of death by the staff representative (RN Nurse or Doctor or certified medical representative), the family representatives of the deceased shall notify their preferred mortuary.
  2. The mortuary will pick up the deceased from home or hospital and transport to the Mortuary and complete all the required legal paperwork.

Ghusl:
  1.  The body of the deceased shall be held at the Mortuary in an isolated temperature-controlled environment (Morgue Cooler) until the initiation of religious services (Ghusl, Shrouding and Viewing) then placed back into the cooler until the time of burial.
  2. To prepare the body for burial, it must be washed (ghusl) and shrouded (kafan). Close same-sex family members are encouraged to give Ghusl. It is also recommended that as few people as needed should participate in the ghusl process out of respect for the deceased.
  3. The Mortuary can contact personnel to assist with or perform the Ghusl of the deceased if needed.
  4. Under no circumstances will it be permitted to wash the bodies of the opposite gender - with the exception of husband and wives opting for undertaking the task.

Very Important:
Please consider wearing a face mask & maintaining social distance
