Community Update from the Islamic Center of San Diego
Date: June 22, 2026
As-salaamu Alaikum,
One month has passed since our community experienced the unimaginable tragedy of May 18. While the pain of that day remains with us, so too does the strength, compassion, and resilience that have carried our community forward.
We continue to remember our martyrs, Amin Abdullah, Mansour Kaziha, and Nadir Awad. We pray that Allah (SWT) grants them the highest ranks of Jannatul Firdaus, while surrounding their families and loved ones with sabr, comfort, and peace.
Over the past month, we have been humbled by the overwhelming support shown by our congregation, neighbors, first responders, faith leaders, and the broader San Diego community. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has stood beside ICSD during this difficult time. Thank you.
As many of you witnessed during this week's Jumu'ah, we were honored to welcome Imam Omar Suleiman alongside Imam Taha. Their messages reminded us that while hatred seeks to divide, our faith calls us to remain united, steadfast, and committed to serving one another with compassion and dignity.
We also want to acknowledge that on Thursday, June 18, ICSD and law enforcement responded to a possible threat near ICSD property. ICSD security staff and law enforcement agencies are actively reviewing the incident and taking the appropriate steps to address the matter. Fortunately, the threat was identified before any harm occurred, and no adverse consequences resulted. ICSD leadership remains in close communication with our trusted public safety partners as additional precautions continue to be evaluated and implemented. Out of an abundance of care, we are continuing enhanced security measures, including law enforcement presence and additional professional security support to help ensure the safety and security of everyone attending ICSD.
Behind the scenes, ICSD leadership continues to thoughtfully implement additional security measures while also undertaking a broader evaluation of our long-term facility needs. As part of this effort, leadership is exploring how our worship, educational, and community programs can best be supported in ways that strengthen safety and allow our community to continue growing in the years ahead. We remain committed to making thoughtful decisions that serve the best interests of our entire community.
If you or someone in your family could benefit from additional support, counseling and mental health resources remain available through ICSD and our community partners. We encourage anyone in need to take advantage of these resources. Click Here
Going forward, we must move together as a united community. We ask that you continue to keep our entire community in your duas. We ask for your patience as we develop solutions to support the masjid and its community, and we ask for your trust as various measures are being implemented to ensure the safety and security of everyone who attends ICSD. Our community has endured an immense test, but through faith, unity, and the mercy of Allah (SWT), we will continue to heal, rebuild, and honor the legacy of those we lost by strengthening the community they loved and served so dearly.
May Allah (SWT) continue to grant our community healing, unity, strength, wisdom, and protection. Ameen.
