A Reminder for Our Community During Difficult Times
Community Update from the Islamic Center of San Diego
Dated: June 12, 2026
As-salaamu Alaikum,
As we have gathered for another Friday, we wish to share an update on our ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of our congregation.
First, we would like to extend our gratitude to the many community members who submitted questions, concerns, and recommendations via the ICSD Community Feedback Form. The feedback period has now concluded. The majority of the responses centered on security and safety. ICSD Leadership is currently reviewing these submissions to ensure your voices directly inform our ongoing discussions and planning efforts.
We also recognize the ongoing emotional impact of recent events. Healing looks different for everyone, and support remains available for those who may need it. If you or your family need help, mental health support, and counseling are available through our office and partners. We encourage those in need to explore available assistance here.
Additionally, law enforcement maintains a consistent presence at ICSD as our leadership works closely with safety professionals to monitor the situation.
To build on these immediate measures, ICSD has engaged a highly regarded security consulting firm to conduct a comprehensive review of our facilities, operations, and security practices. We are currently coordinating the logistics and have a date set for their upcoming visit and look forward to reviewing and evaluating their recommendations, inshaAllah. Additionally, we are engaging in discussions with former law enforcement professionals and qualified community members who can provide long-term guidance and expertise.
While we await the findings of this audit, we are putting several updated protocols into effect to strengthen our existing security practices:
Our goal is to thoughtfully implement security measures that help protect our community while preserving the welcoming environment that has always defined ICSD.
We thank you for your patience, support, and continued trust as we move forward together with transparency and care.
May Allah (SWT) continue to grant our community healing, unity, strength, and protection.

While we await the findings of this audit, we are putting several updated protocols into effect to strengthen our existing security practices:
- Congregants may notice security adjustments, including the potential use of handheld metal detectors by personnel.
- Visitors unknown to security may be required to leave bags or large personal items in a designated area outside the building.
- The main mosque entrance will typically open 30 minutes before prayer services, with earlier arrivals admitted individually as determined by security.
- Community members are asked to avoid extended or unsolicited conversations with security and law enforcement while they are on duty to ensure they remain focused on safety.
